NEW YORK, Mar. 30, 2026 -- Dispatch Energy LLC, a full-service, customer-focused provider of distributed energy solutions, today acquired a new 3MW standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in San Diego, California from EnerSmart Storage. The site will serve as a new source of flexible power in transmission-constrained San Diego County to improve grid reliability and reliance for the southern California community. Dispatch will contract EnerSmart Storage for the installation.
Located in Kearny Mesa, the Mesa Heights project marks Dispatch’s rapid growth as it expands its portfolio of distributed, dispatchable energy assets across the country. Recent milestones include the acquisition of Green Lantern Solar and the energization of its Connecticut fuel cell site, which demonstrate Dispatch’s ability to deliver flexible, customer-centric solutions that meet the evolving needs of utilities, communities, and corporate partners.
“The Mesa Heights BESS project will help relieve pressure on the grid and provide the Kearny Mesa community with an affordable and predictable energy supply," said Skyler Tennis, Chief Operating Officer of EnerSmart Storage. "Dispatch is moving quickly to bring new renewable, reliable resources online. By pairing their deep knowledge in distributed infrastructure with EnerSmart's installation and operational expertise, we believe this partnership is the perfect recipe to bring the Mesa Heights BESS project to fruition.”
Kearny Mesa is a bustling commercial and residential hub where energy costs run 110% higher than the national average, underscoring a pressure many businesses and households feel as growing demand and a strained grid drive bills higher and reliability concerns to the forefront. For high energy cost markets like Kearny Mesa, local storage projects help stabilize bills and curb price volatility over time.
“Battery storage is one of the fastest, most cost-effective ways to get new electrons onto the grid.” said Rich Dovere, CEO of Dispatch Energy. “Projects like Mesa Heights show how distributed storage can ease pressure on strained infrastructure, reduce exposure to peak-hour pricing, and create a more resilient, affordable energy system for the long-term."
